DC Studios’ latest superhero film, ‘Supergirl’, is set to make its theatrical debut in Bangladesh on June 26, the same day as its worldwide release.
The film will be screened at Star Cineplex, bringing the iconic Kryptonian heroine back to the big screen more than four decades after her first standalone film.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film stars Milly Alcock in the titular role alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet and Jason Momoa.
The character first appeared in cinemas in 1984 in the original ‘Supergirl’, a spin-off of the ‘Superman’ franchise.
Although the film failed to achieve commercial or critical success, the character has remained a familiar name among comic book fans through animation, comics and television adaptations.
This latest film introduces a darker interpretation of Kara Zor-El.
Unlike Superman, who grew up on Earth in a loving environment, Kara spent her early years on a fragment of the destroyed planet Krypton, witnessing death and devastation around her.
Those experiences shape a more emotionally scarred and resilient hero.
The story follows Kara as she journeys through space with her loyal companion, Krypto the Superdog.
Along the way, she meets a young girl named Ruthye, whose family has been brutally murdered by a ruthless warlord.
Together, they embark on a dangerous intergalactic quest driven by justice and revenge.
One of the film’s biggest attractions is the live-action debut of the comic book anti-hero Lobo, portrayed by Jason Momoa.
The filmmakers have said the fan-favourite bounty hunter has been adapted with close attention to his comic book origins, making his arrival one of the most anticipated aspects of the film.
