CoU law students lock classrooms over session jam

Students of the Law Department at Comilla University (CoU) locked several classrooms and staged a protest on Monday, demanding an end to prolonged session delays.

The demonstration began around 11:00am at the Law Faculty, where students expressed frustration over what they described as severe disruptions to their academic progress.

According to the protesters, examinations for the 2021-22 academic session have been delayed by nearly eight months due to an ongoing session jam. During the protest, students locked multiple classrooms in the faculty building and presented a six-point charter of demands.

The demands include publication of all in-course examination results within 24 hours, completion of the remaining two semesters within six months, publication of a roadmap for the remaining semesters within 48 hours, release of final examination results within eight weeks, recruitment of guest teachers to address faculty shortages, and a written commitment from the university authorities to implement the measures.

The students later withdrew the protest after receiving assurances from the university administration.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Masuda Kamal visited the protest site and held talks with the demonstrators.

“We will take necessary steps to address the students’ reasonable demands,” she said.

The Pro-VC also said action would be taken against those responsible for the delays if formal complaints are submitted.

The situation remained peaceful after the protest was called off.
