BGB foils 20-people push-in attempt at Chouka border

SHIBGANJ (CHAPAINAWABGANJ): BGB members and local residents remain on alert at the Chouka border in Shibganj after an alleged push-in attempt involving 20 people along the Bangladesh-India border on Saturday.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has reportedly prevented an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push 20 men, women, and children into Bangladesh through the Chouka border in Shibganj.

The incident occurred near pillar No. 177/2-S in the Chouka border area under Binodpur Union of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district. According to reports, the group is currently staying inside Indian territory along the zero line at the Chouka border.

On-the-spot observations indicated that more than a hundred local residents had gathered at the border and were assisting BGB personnel in preventing the alleged push-in.

On the opposite side of the border, BSF personnel were seen taking positions.The incident took place at around 6:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Our Chapainawabganj correspondent said that members of the BSF from the Sabdalpur camp attempted to push 20 people including men, women, and children into Bangladesh through the Chouka border area.

Upon receiving information about the incident, members of the Chouka Border Outpost (BOP) of the BGB quickly rushed to the scene and prevented the alleged push-in.

Among the 20 individuals were five men, eleven women, and four children.

Habildar Ashraf Ali of the Chouka BOP said, “After learning about the attempted push-in, we took immediate action and prevented it.”

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, Commanding Officer of the 59th Battalion of Mahananda BGB, said in a WhatsApp message that they had received reports of an attempt to push 20 people into Bangladesh through the Chouka border area.

He stated, “BGB members of the Chouka BOP have prevented them at the zero line inside Indian territory. I am now heading to the scene.”

According to the latest information received around 9:00 a.m., approximately 20 to 25 BSF personnel again attempted to push the group across the border, creating tensions between the BGB and BSF. Local residents reportedly chased the BSF personnel, causing them to retreat.
