Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has directed police officials to step up operations against drug traffickers, extortionists, muggers and other criminal elements in an effort to strengthen law and order and enhance public safety across the capital.
The instructions were issued on Wednesday during the monthly crime review meeting for May 2026, held at the DMP headquarters and attended by senior police officials.
Emphasising the need for stricter enforcement measures, the DMP commissioner ordered officers to intensify anti-drug drives and expedite the arrest of accused persons wanted under outstanding warrants within their respective jurisdictions.
He also instructed officials to ensure that police stations remain free from brokers and urged officers to stay vigilant so that criminal activities do not occur in areas under their supervision.
Mosleh Uddin Ahmed said police personnel demonstrating outstanding performance would receive recognition, while disciplinary action would be taken against those found negligent in their duties, violating discipline or engaging in activities that damage the reputation of the police force.
Addressing the meeting, Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam called for coordinated efforts among all police units to ensure the successful implementation of programmes marking the upcoming Holy Ashura.
He urged officers and personnel to remain alert and proactive in preventing any disruption or deterioration of the law-and-order situation during the observance.
At the meeting, the DMP commissioner presented awards to police officers of various ranks in recognition of their contributions to maintaining law and order, preventing crime and ensuring public safety in the capital during May.
