Crop pests identification training held in KU

A training workshop on identification of crop pests and diseases was held for farmers under the initiative of Agrotechnology Discipline of Khulna University (KU).

The training was organised under the HEAT sub-project titled ‘Morpho-Molecular and Smart Technology-Based Insect and Disease Detection, Their Biological Management and Transformation’ at the conference room of the university’s central laboratory on Monday.

The inaugural ceremony of the training titled ‘Identification of Common Crop Pests and Diseases’ was presided over by Professor Md. Rezaul Islam, Head of Agrotechnology Discipline. The program was addressed by the project’s SPM Dr. Md. Mostafa Kamal and ASPM Professor Dr. Mosha. Sabiha Sultana.

The welcome speech was delivered by ASPM Professor Dr. Shimul Das.

After the inaugural session, the participating farmers were given detailed information about the identification of common pests and diseases of crops, types of damage and effective management strategies through four technical sessions. The training also highlighted various aspects of modern technology-based identification methods and biological management.

Marginal farmers from Batiaghata, Dighalia, Dumuria, Rupsha and Terkhada upazilas of Khulna participated in this training, which was organized with the funding of the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HIT) sub-project of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The organisers said that such training activities will continue in the future to make farmers aware of modern agricultural technologies and increase productivity through rapid identification of crop pests and diseases.
