Anomalies, corruption in Kendua govt aid distribution

There have been extreme irregularities and corruption in the distribution of government aid among the farmers affected by the untimely flood in Kendua, Netrokona.

The names of farmers who are less affected, or even not affected at all, are on the beneficiary list. However, numerous farmers who are actually more affected have been excluded.

Based on the complaints, some distributions are also stopped for the time being. As a result, widespread anger has been generated. A storm of criticism has arisen from all quarters.

It is known that government aid is being distributed among 4,939 farmers listed as affected by the untimely flood in Kendua upazila of Netrokona district. But numerous farmers who are actually affected have not been included in this list.

This aid is being brought to the list of farmers who are relatively less affected, or even not affected at all.
There have been allegations that this list has been made under the umbrella of influential circles. There is also evidence that many names have been included in the list in exchange for money.

Alleging irregularities and corruption, more than two hundred deprived farmers including Enamul, Joint Secretary of Gordoba Union Jubo Dal, Habibur Rahman, Organizing Secretary of Krishak Dal, BNP leader Mukhlesh have applied to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer.

Deprived and affected farmers of Paikura Union have also applied to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s office with their complaints.

Upazila BNP Youth Affairs Secretary Azharul Islam Habib said the real affected farmers have not been properly evaluated.

A discriminatory list has been made under the umbrella of influential people. Which is very sad.
Al Amin, a affected farmer of Royal Bari Union, said, I can’t even hold a scissors on my two and a half acres of land. However, my name is not on the list. But I am shocked that people who are not affected at all have received assistance.”

Many others, including Gias Uddin, Milan Mia, Lakku Mia and Abu Siddique, affected farmers of Kachandra village of Balaishimul Union, said Despite being extremely affected, they did not receive assistance. However, those who do not have land have received this assistance.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Ujjwal Saha said – 3,000 taka in cash and 30 kg of rice are being distributed to each of the 4,939 affected farmers listed.

Two months of assistance is being given at once. The remaining one month of assistance will be given later. This assistance will be provided for three months.

In this regard, Kendua Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Rifatul Islam said “I have complaints from Garadoba and Paikura unions. Due to the complaints, some distributions in Balaishimul and Dalpa unions are currently closed. Necessary action will be taken after investigating the irregularities and corruption.
