



Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad on Saturday commended Lions International for its extensive humanitarian activities, saying the organisation has set a remarkable example by serving disadvantaged people through voluntary initiatives.
Addressing the 39th Annual Convention 2026 of Lions International Multiple District 315 Bangladesh at Hotel InterContinental Dhaka as the chief guest, he said organisations like Lions International complement government efforts in advancing social welfare and national development.
“Lions International’s voluntary efforts in standing beside underprivileged people are unique in the field of human service,” the Speaker said.
He described Lions International as one of the world’s largest service organisations and noted that its humanitarian programmes in Bangladesh are being implemented in a well-organised manner.
The Speaker said the contributions of Lions members have created new opportunities in humanitarian welfare and nation-building. He also praised the values demonstrated by members of the organisation, including mutual respect, discipline and goodwill, saying such qualities deserve wider emulation in society.
Referring to the organisation’s international presence, he said Lions International currently operates in more than 200 countries and geographical areas with around 1.4 million members. Its activities cover a broad range of humanitarian services, including vision care, hunger relief, environmental protection, diabetes awareness, support for children with cancer, youth development and disaster response.
The convention was chaired by Council Chairperson of Multiple District 315 Bangladesh, Lion Md Ashraf Hossain Khan Hira. Convention Chairperson Lion Sabina Siddika delivered the welcome address, while International Director of Lions International Lion Nazmul Haque attended as a special guest.
Prominent Lions leaders from Bangladesh and abroad also addressed the gathering.
During the event, the Speaker formally inaugurated the convention and unveiled its souvenir publication.
Commemorative awards were presented to distinguished guests, while several individuals and organisations received recognition for their notable contributions to the Lions movement.
Speakers at the convention emphasised the importance of expanding humanitarian and social welfare activities, particularly for vulnerable and disadvantaged communities, and highlighted Lions International’s continued role in promoting social responsibility.
