Mobile court punishes three exam cheaters

A mobile court in Dhaka on Friday has sentenced three candidates for resorting to unfair means during the written examination for the post of Record Keeper under the Land Record and Survey Department.

The examination was held at Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College centre in Demra, Dhaka, where authorities said the candidates were caught red-handed while attempting to cheat and were subsequently handed over to the mobile court.

One candidate, KM Mozammel Haque, was fined Tk 50 and sentenced to one day’s imprisonment under Section 188 of the Penal Code, 1860 for using a mobile phone during the exam.

Another examinee, Mst. Marzina Akter, received a fine of Tk 50 along with three days of simple imprisonment for allegedly using an electronic specialised hearing device to gain unfair advantage.

In a separate incident, Md Mizanur Rahman was found to have been impersonated by another individual identified as Faruk Mondal.

For committing identity fraud, Faruk Mondal was fined Tk 100 and sentenced to one day’s imprisonment under the same legal provision.

The mobile court proceedings were conducted by Executive Magistrate Zakia Muntahim from the office of the Dhaka Deputy Commissioner.

Officials from the Department of Land Record and Survey said strict surveillance will continue in upcoming recruitment examinations to ensure transparency, fairness and discipline, adding that legal action will be taken against any attempts at malpractice.

A total of 8,013 candidates were scheduled for the examination, while 6,895 appeared on the day.
