PM to begin daylong Cox’s Bazar tour today

A wide-ranging development and public engagement programme is set to unfold in Cox’s Bazar today as Tarique Rahman embarks on a one-day visit on 13 June, covering infrastructure rehabilitation, environmental initiatives and political outreach across several upazilas.

According to the schedule signed by Prime Minister’s Protocol Officer-1 Mohammad Ujjal Hossain, the Prime Minister will arrive in Cox’s Bazar by air at 10am and is expected to depart for Dhaka at 10pm the same night.

Shortly after arrival, he will proceed directly from the airport to Pmkhali union in Cox’s Bazar Sadar, where he will inaugurate the re-excavation of Patli Khal, a canal originally dug under the initiative of former president Ziaur Rahman. At 10:30am, he is also scheduled to address a roadside gathering in the area.

Later in the programme, he will travel to Dulahazara Safari Park in Chakaria. There, at noon, he will inaugurate a nationwide tree plantation initiative involving the planting of 250 million trees, followed by a visit inside the park.

The Prime Minister will then move to Pekua upazila to pay tribute at the grave of Md Wasim Akram, who was killed during the 2024 July Uprising, and will also meet members of his family.

At 1:30pm, he is expected to attend the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the newly formed Matamuhuri upazila and take part in a prayer session.

He will subsequently return to Pekua to participate in the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Pekua Municipality. After offering Zuhr prayers and having lunch in the area, he will depart for Chakaria.

At 4pm, he will address a public rally in Chakaria Municipality as the chief guest. Following the rally, he is scheduled at around 6pm to inspect the Marine Drive road and the sea beach.

The final phase of the visit will take place at 8pm at Long Beach Hotel in Kolatoli, Cox’s Bazar, where he will attend an exchange-of-views meeting with local distinguished citizens.

Ahead of the visit, security has been significantly strengthened at key locations across the district, while administrative bodies, law enforcement agencies and local political activists have been making extensive preparations.
