Judiciary gets Tk291cr
The government has proposed an allocation of Tk 291 crore for the Supreme Court in the 2026-27 fiscal year, up from Tk 270 crore in the revised budget of FY2025-26, according to the budget proposal.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khusru Mahmud Chowdhury placed the national budget on Thursday in Parliament during his budget speech, outlining sector-wise allocations and key policy priorities.
The proposed national budget for FY2026-27 stands at Tk 9,38,000 crore, the largest in the country’s history. The budget has been framed under the theme “Economic Democratization and Decentralization: Bangladesh on the Path to a Trillion-Dollar Economy.”
Prior to the budget presentation, the proposed financial plan was approved at a cabinet meeting held at the Parliament Bhaban, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. This marks the first budget of the BNP-led government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Finance Minister Amir Khusru Mahmud Chowdhury.
The government has prioritized inflation control, job creation, accelerated economic growth, and increased investment in the new fiscal plan. It has set a target to reduce inflation to 7.5 percent. To support low-income and vulnerable populations, the budget expands social safety net coverage and introduces new initiatives such as family cards and farmer cards.
The finance minister also outlined proposed reforms in tax and customs administration aimed at easing business operations and improving trade facilitation. The budget further includes sector-wise allocations, proposed salary structure reforms for government employees, and a broader macroeconomic framework aimed at sustaining growth.
