Railway police seize 50 bottles of Eskuf syrup, 1 held

The Detective Branch (DB) of the Pakshi Railway District Police seized 50 bottles of codeine-based Eskuf syrup during an anti-narcotics operation aboard the Rajshahi-bound Madhumati Express train. One person was arrested in connection with the incident.

According to Pakshi Railway District Police, the operation was conducted on Wednesday (June 10) based on confidential information as part of an ongoing drive against narcotics trafficking and smuggling.
While the intercity train was passing through the outer signal area of Abdulpur Railway Station, officers searched a plastic sack containing a carton of mangoes that had been kept under Seat No. 1 in AC Cabin No. 1 of Coach “K”.

During the search, police recovered 50 bottles of codeine-containing Eskuf syrup hidden inside the mango carton.

The suspect, identified as Ratan Lal Biswas (43), was arrested on the spot. He is a resident of Bisharkandi village under Banaripara Upazila in Barishal district and the son of the late Matilal Biswas and Jharna Rani Biswas.

The operation was conducted by a team from the District Detective Branch under the supervision of Md. Mehedi Hasan, Superintendent of Police of Pakshi Railway District.

Police said a case has been filed against the accused with Ishwardi Railway Police Station under Sections 36(1), Schedule 14(b)/41 of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.
