BRU officials suspend strike after admin’s assurance
The protesting officials of Begum Rokeya University (BRU) have suspended their ongoing strike demanding promotion and upgradation for the time being.
They took this decision after receiving assurances from the university administration that their demands would be implemented quickly.
The protesting officials announced the suspension of the programme at a press conference organised at the south gate of the university’s administrative building on Tuesday.
At the press conference, the officials said, “We have been facing discrimination regarding promotion and upgradation for a long time. We have been observing a strike and sit-in programme for the past few days to draw the attention of the administration in this regard.” After discussions with the university registrar on Tuesday, the administration assured a quick solution to the problem.
They also said, “Respecting the administration’s assurance, we have decided to suspend our ongoing strike and sit-in programme for a week. If there is no visible progress within the stipulated time, the next programme will be announced.”
