NASSA Group workers protest over unpaid wages

Hundreds of workers of NASSA Group blocked a key road linking Mohakhali and Tejgaon in the capital on Monday afternoon, demanding payment of overdue wages and bringing traffic in the area to a standstill.

Around 500 workers joined the protest, alleging that they had not received one month’s salary. Frustrated by the delay, they occupied the busy roadway at around 4:00pm, disrupting vehicular movement and causing severe congestion across surrounding areas.

The blockade halted traffic on one of Dhaka’s important commercial corridors, leaving commuters stranded and creating long tailbacks on connecting roads during the evening rush hour.

Police were deployed to the scene and attempted to convince the workers to withdraw from the road and pursue negotiations. However, the demonstrators remained in place, insisting that their salary arrears be cleared before ending the protest.

According to Tejgaon Industrial Area police, the demonstration was still ongoing as of 5:30pm, with traffic movement on the road remaining suspended.

The protest highlights growing labour discontent over delayed wage payments, a recurring issue in several industrial sectors, where workers often resort to street demonstrations to press their demands.
No immediate response from NASSA Group regarding the workers’ allegations was available.
