Turin Afroz shown arrested in fraud case

Former International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) prosecutor Turin Afroz has been shown arrested in a case filed by her brother alleging illegal possession of family property, forgery and intimidation.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Zakir Hossain passed the order on Monday following a petition filed by the complainant’s side. Plaintiff’s lawyer Zakir Hossain confirmed the matter.

According to the case statement, the dispute centres on family property located in Dhaka’s Uttara area. The complainant Shah Newaz Ahmad alleged that Turin Afroz attempted to unlawfully take control of their ancestral property by exerting influence and engaging in fraudulent activities.

The complaint further alleges that after their father’s death, Turin Afroz prepared a forged affidavit and used it to claim ownership of the property, reports Bangla Tribune.

It also claims that she entered their mother’s apartment, assaulted her, and removed important documents and property records.

In addition, the complainant alleged that Turin Afroz threatened him and other family members, leaving them in fear and insecurity for an extended period.

The case investigation officer, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Inspector Mominul Islam recently submitted an investigation report against the accused.

Following the submission of the report, the complainant’s side filed a petition seeking to have Turin Afroz shown arrested in the case. The court subsequently granted the application.
