3 Eid films begin screening abroad
The wait for the international audience is over.
Three Bangladeshi films released during Eid-ul-Azha are now extending their theatrical runs overseas, with international screenings underway across several major markets.
‘Rockstar’, ‘Roid’, and ‘Malik’ are being released in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, bringing this year’s Eid offerings to overseas audiences, says a press release.
‘Rockstar’ began screening last Friday in 41 cinemas across North America and Europe. The film’s international distribution is being handled by Swapna Scarecrow.
Starring Shakib Khan, ‘Rockstar’ centres on the life of a musician, exploring his journey through fame, personal struggles, and the complexities that accompany success. The film also stars Sabila Nur and Tangia Zaman Methila.
Meanwhile, Mejbaur Rahman Sumon’s ‘Roid’, was released in Sydney and Melbourne on June 5.
The film is scheduled to expand gradually to audiences in Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, and Canberra. Distribution in Australia and New Zealand is being managed by Screen Xcope and Deshi Events.
Set against the backdrop of rural life and local traditions, ‘Roid’ follows Sadhu, a young man living in a remote area with his mentally unstable wife.
Overwhelmed by her unpredictable behaviour, he attempts to leave her behind in a distant place. Yet each time, a mysterious turn of events leads her back home.
Through this narrative, the filmmaker explores themes of human connection, guilt, responsibility, and love. The film features Mostafizur Noor Imran and Nazifa Tushi in the lead roles.
The third Eid release, ‘Malik’, is set to be screened in Bankstown, New South Wales, on June 13 and 14.
The film’s international distribution is being overseen by Bongoj Films. Organisers have confirmed that advance ticket sales are already underway.
To coincide with the special screenings, the film’s lead actor, Arifin Shuvoo, will travel to Australia to engage with audiences. Directed by Saif Chandan, ‘Malik’ also stars Bidya Sinha Mim.
