16 injured in clash between two villages in Baraigram
At least 16 people were injured in a clash between residents of two villages over a dispute involving a girl in the Shibpur School area of Baraigram Upazila in Natore.
According to local sources, an altercation first broke out among a group of teenagers on Friday night over the issue.
The dispute later escalated into a clash between residents of Garmati Colony and Shibpur villages on Sunday.
People from both villages reportedly gathered following loudspeaker announcements and confronted each other with sticks, bricks, stones, and other weapons.
The situation quickly turned violent, resulting in injuries on both sides. Those injured from Garmati Colony include Awal (34), Torun (28), Rabbi (22), Bulbul (28), Chabbir (20), Rubel Mandal (30), and Nishat Mandal (23). The injured from Shibpur village include Uyaz Pramanik (70), Israel Pramanik (40), Adil (45), Kamrul (38), Abdul Barek (42), Miraj (45), Golam (50), Israel (48), Abdul Alim, and Zayeda (65). Among them, Uyaz Pramanik was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
The others received treatment at various local clinics and healthcare facilities.
Upon receiving information about the incident, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Laila Jannatul Ferdous, Baraigram Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdus Salam, and Gopalpur Union Parishad Chairman Abdus Samad rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.
OC Abdus Salam said that additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent further violence.
Separate cases have been filed by Md. Awal of Garmati Colony and Israel Pramanik of Shibpur village. However, no arrests had been made as of filing this report.
