PM launches skills-based training for NU teachers

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman receives a commemorative plaque from National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAM Amanullah at the inauguration of the National University Curriculum Teacher Training Programme at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital on Sunday.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday launched a nationwide teacher training initiative designed to incorporate skills-based and technical education into the curriculum of the National University (NU), as part of efforts to make higher education more employment-oriented.

The programme, titled “Inclusion of Skills-Based Education in National University Curriculum,” was inaugurated at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka.

The Prime Minister formally opened the initiative at around 11:25am by pressing a button on a laptop.

The National University has introduced the programme to build a pool of skilled educators capable of teaching technical and career-focused subjects.

Under the initiative, 12,000 teachers from colleges across the country will receive training in phases.

Speakers at the event underscored the growing importance of vocational and technical education, highlighting the slogan: “We will receive skills-based education and work across the world.”

According to officials, the revised curriculum will offer students practical training in areas including freelancing, entrepreneurship development, digital marketing, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, machine learning and data science.

To facilitate the rollout of the programme, 900 master trainers have already been prepared.

They will subsequently train 12,000 college teachers nationwide, enabling them to effectively deliver the new courses and help students acquire skills required in today’s evolving job market.

Officials said the initiative is expected to strengthen employment-oriented education and improve the competitiveness of graduates both in Bangladesh and internationally.

At the programme, NU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr ASM Amanullah and other teachers presented the Prime Minister with a commemorative crest and a sapling.

The event began with the screening of a documentary highlighting the lives and contributions of late President Ziaur Rahman, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Education, and Primary and Mass Education Mahdi Amin, and Prof Dr ASM Amanullah also addressed the programme.
