3 of a family suffer burns in Uttarkhan blast

A suspected gas cylinder leak caused an explosion at a residence in Dhaka’s Uttarkhan area on Saturday morning, leaving three members of the same family with severe burn injuries.

The injured were identified as Ali Hossain, 50, his wife Hasnahena, 40, and their daughter Akhi, 30.
All three were taken to the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at around 7:30am in critical condition.

Resident physician Dr Shawon Bin Rahman said Ali Hossain suffered burns on 100 percent of his body. Hasnahena sustained 60 percent burns, while Akhi received burn injuries on 15 percent of her body.

Given the severity of their condition, the three patients were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), he added.

According to Ratul Hasan Tushar, who accompanied the victims to the hospital, the explosion occurred in the morning while Hasnahena was working in the kitchen.

Initial information suggests the blast may have been caused by a gas cylinder leak, although the circumstances surrounding the incident have yet to be officially confirmed.
