Anti-crime unit busts drug network
A special operation by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit has led to the arrest of six alleged drug dealers and the recovery of 19 kilograms of marijuana in the capital’s Mohammadpur area.
According to a press release issued on Friday by the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the arrestees are Md Chan Mia (35), Md Wasim (33), Md Rakibul Islam alias Rakib (20), Taslima Begum (35), Jannat Akhter (19) and Kajal Begum (26).
The CTTC conducted the raid at a house under Mohammadpur Police Station at around 11:00pm on Thursday (June 4) following confidential information, the release said.
During the operation, officers seized 19kg of marijuana and detained the six suspects.
Investigators believe the group had been involved in collecting marijuana from various locations, including Brahmanbaria, and supplying the narcotic to Dhaka and surrounding areas for a long period.
The CTTC said the operation was carried out based on intelligence inputs and resulted in the recovery of the drugs.
After completing the required legal procedures, police produced the arrestees before a court, according to the DMP statement.
The latest drive forms part of ongoing law enforcement efforts to disrupt narcotics trafficking networks operating in the capital and its neighbouring areas.
