Nasiruddin’s convoy attacked in Benapole

A vehicle carrying National Citizen Party Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary reportedly came under attack in Benapole on Wednesday while he was returning from a visit to a border area where alleged push-in attempts by India’s Border Security Force had recently been reported.

Khalid Saifullah Jewel, a member of the NCP central committee, said unidentified people hurled bricks at Patwary’s motorcade near the Benapole Checkpost intersection.

Patwary had earlier visited the Sadipur border area to inspect the situation following reports of attempted push-ins into Bangladesh. According to NCP leaders, the delegation spoke with local residents and gathered on-site information before heading back.

In a post from his verified Facebook account, Patwary said the delegation had visited the border area, talked to locals and collected information about the situation on the ground.

“On our way back, our vehicle came under attack, and four people were injured,” he wrote, adding that the delegation was otherwise safe.

Patwary also said their position remained firm on protecting human dignity at the border, citizens’ rights and Bangladesh’s sovereignty.

Condemning the attack, Jewel said party leaders and activists quickly escorted Patwary to Jashore. He later left for Dhaka.

However, Benapole Port Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Ashraful Hossain said police had not been informed about any attack on the vehicle carrying Patwary.

No immediate details were available about the identities of the attackers or the condition of those reportedly injured.
