Ctg Port’s NCT hits all-time monthly container handling record in May
The New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chittagong Port has recorded its highest-ever monthly container handling volume in May, setting a significant benchmark in the port’s operational history.
In May, the terminal handled a total of 1,26,496 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of containers, the highest monthly volume ever recorded at the facility, said Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) on Tuesday.
According to port officials, the previous record was set in October 2025 when the terminal handled 1,25,533 TEUs. The latest figure has surpassed that benchmark.
CPA Syed Refayet Hamim said the achievement was made under the management of Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL), an organisation under the control of the Bangladesh Navy.
The terminal handled an average of 4,081 TEUs per day during the month, he said.
Of the total containers handled in May, 59,851 TEUs were import containers while 66,645 TEUs were export containers.
Port sources said CDDL took over as operator of the NCT on July 7, 2025. Since then, operational efficiency and capacity at the terminal have improved significantly.
Coordinated efforts of personnel engaged at various points, including vessel operations, delivery points, appraisal sections and C&F sheds, have contributed to faster container unloading and loading activities, they said.
CPA Chief Personnel Officer Md Nasir Uddin said the achievement marks an important milestone in enhancing the capacity of the country’s principal seaport.
“Such success will further accelerate the growth of the national economy and foreign trade,” he said.
