Dispute over BCB election

A legal challenge has been filed in the High Court questioning the election schedule and voter list of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), just days before the polls are set to take place.

Six councillors submitted the writ petition, which is scheduled for hearing on Tuesday before a High Court bench comprising Justice Bhishmadev Chakraborty and Justice Md Asif Hasan.

The petition comes at a critical stage, with less than a week remaining for the BCB election programme.

Earlier on May 16, the Chief Election Commissioner’s office announced the schedule for the BCB Board of Directors election 2026, setting June 7 as the date for both voting and the announcement of results.
Following that, a draft voter list was published on May 17 by the election commission.

Under the election structure, 23 directors are to be elected through direct votes, while two more will be nominated by the National Sports Council (NSC). The 25 directors will then vote to elect the BCB president.
