BGB foils alleged BSF push-in attempt

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has foiled an alleged attempt by India’s Border Security Force to push a group of people into Bangladesh through the Benapole border in Jashore.

The incident took place in the early hours of Monday at the Sadipur border area near the Benapole international check post.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Saiful Islam Khan, commanding officer of the 49 BGB Battalion in Jashore, confirmed the incident. According to BGB sources, BSF personnel allegedly tried to push 8 to 10 people, including women and children, into Bangladesh by identifying them as Bangladeshi nationals. The group was reportedly brought near border pillar No. 19/S-6 in the Sadipur Kharer Maath area after a fenced gate on the Indian side was opened.

BGB patrol members stationed in the area detected the movement and intervened immediately, preventing the alleged push-in attempt.

Lieutenant Colonel Saiful said BGB had strengthened patrols and surveillance along the border throughout the night.

“We have intensified surveillance at all border points, including Sadipur, to prevent any push-in attempt. Such actions will not be allowed under any circumstances,” he said.

He added that the group remained stranded near the zero line at Sadipur field as of Monday afternoon.
BGB officials said similar attempts could be made through other border points, prompting heightened vigilance across the region.

The force has sent a formal letter of protest to BSF over the incident. Preparations are also underway for a flag meeting between the two border forces to resolve the matter, the BGB official said.
