Govt hails improved Eid management

The government has claimed significant improvements in the management of Eid-ul-Azha this year, attributing the smoother celebration of the festival to a series of coordinated public service measures implemented nationwide.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Monday, PMO Spokesperson Mahdi Amin said a set of 10 priority initiatives helped make Eid travel easier, ensured timely payment of workers’ wages and bonuses, maintained stability in commodity markets and improved waste management following animal sacrifices.

He said the measures were implemented under the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman with a focus on making public services more responsive to citizens’ needs during the country’s second-largest religious festival.

According to the PMO, extended holidays, strengthened traffic management and coordinated transport operations contributed to comparatively smoother journeys on highways, while most garment workers received their dues before the holiday, helping maintain stability in industrial areas.

The spokesperson said strict monitoring of cattle markets and efforts to prevent illegal cattle inflow protected local farmers and ensured an adequate supply of sacrificial animals. He added that action against extortion and market syndicates created a more favourable environment for traders.

Highlighting post-Eid cleanliness efforts, Mahdi Amin said sacrificial waste in most parts of Dhaka was cleared within 8 to 12 hours, which he described as a notable improvement over previous years. He also noted that uninterrupted electricity supply, enhanced public safety measures and market monitoring helped keep essential commodity prices relatively stable during the festival period.

While acknowledging that longstanding institutional challenges cannot be resolved within a few months, the spokesperson said the Eid experience demonstrated the government’s commitment to improving service delivery and strengthening coordination among state agencies.

At the briefing, Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said Tarique Rahman personally monitored post-Eid cleanliness operations in the capital and instructed authorities to ensure prompt waste removal and improved public services.
