Former MP Abdul Matin passes away
Former Member of Parliament for the Moulvibazar-2 (Kulaura) constituency and freedom fighter Md. Abdul Matin passed away (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un).
He breathed his last at 12:00 noon on Monday at his residence in Mirpur, Dhaka.
He was 81 years old. At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter, and numerous relatives, friends, and well-wishers.
As a veteran politician, his death has cast a shadow of grief among his longtime colleagues and the people of Kulaura. Md. Abdul Matin was born on March 17, 1945, in Kamarkandi village under Joychandi Union in Kulaura Upazila.
He was elected as an independent candidate in the 10th National Parliament election in 2014 and served as a Member of Parliament.
In the 11th National Parliament election held in 2018, he withdrew his candidacy in support of the Grand Alliance candidate.
He also served as the Chairman of Kulaura Upazila Parishad for two terms, President of Kulaura Upazila Awami League, and Chairman of Joychandi Union Parishad for five consecutive terms.
At the time of his death, he was serving as a senior member of both the district and upazila Awami League committees.
