DNCC dismisses ‘False’ claims over metro rail greenery
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan on Monday alleged that AI-generated images were used on social media to spread misleading information about the condition of greenery surrounding the Metro Rail area.
Speaking after inaugurating a tree plantation programme at Tejgaon Polytechnic playground and nearby road dividers, he said the campaign aimed to create a negative impression about both the government and DNCC.
The administrator said greenery around the Uttara Metro Rail corridor, which was partially affected by temporary cattle markets during Eid-ul-Azha, has already been restored through fresh plantation efforts.
According to him, the renewed plantation has improved the area’s appearance and enhanced its environmental value. He urged journalists to visit the site and verify the situation firsthand to help counter misinformation.
Shafiqul said the tree plantation drive is part of DNCC’s “Clean and Green Dhaka” initiative and is intended to encourage citizens to engage in positive environmental activities following Eid.
He added that similar plantation programmes will be gradually expanded to industrial zones and other areas under DNCC.
The administrator also said post-Eid cleaning operations across the city were carried out successfully with support from residents and media personnel, while regular waste collection services continued without interruption.
He further noted that leaseholders of temporary cattle markets were complying with requirements for waste removal and dismantling of market infrastructure.
