PM pays floral wreath to Zia on his martyrdom anniversary

BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today paid tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman on his martyrdom anniversary.
At about 11 am, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman first placed a floral wreath on Zia’s grave at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area here.
BNP standing committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Salah Uddin Ahmed and Professor AZM Zahid Hossain accompanied the Prime Minister.
Senior BNP leaders Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Mir Abdus Salam, Masum Ahmed Talukder, Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain Bakul, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Habibur Rashid Habib, Aminur Haque, SM Jahangir, Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Shirin Sultana, Sultana Ahmed, Helen Jerin Khan, Arifa Sultana Ruma, Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, Rafiqul Islam, Shafiqul Alam Milton, Rafiqul Islam Bachchu were also present.
BNP chairman Tarique Rahman and party’s standing committee members stood in solemn silence for some time and showed profound respect to the party founder.
Later, Tarique Rahman joined a doa mahfil at the graveyard.
BNP and its allies and affiliated entities are observing 45th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman today through various programmes.
Ziaur Rahman was martyred in the Chittagong Circle House on May 30, 1981. BNP observes this day as its ‘Martyrdom Day’.
On the occasion, party flag was kept half-mast at the BNP central office in Naya Paltan, BNP chairman’s Gulshan office and party offices across the country in the early morning. The national flag and black flag were hoisted.
Leaders of the affiliated and professional organisations, including Dhaka North and South city units of BNP, Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, Muktijoddha Dal, Sramik Dal, Krishak Dal, Mahila Dal, Ulama Dal, Chhatra Dal and others placed wreaths at the grave of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
BNP convened an eight-day programme on May 25 marking the day. A discussion will be held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium in the capital at 2:30 pm tomorrow.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on the occasion, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will participate in the distribution of clothes and dry food at 17 spots in the capital.
