Fire breaks out at Kalshi Slum

A fire broke out at the Kalshi Slum in the capital’s Pallabi area on Monday evening. According to the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), the fire was reported at 7:23pm.

On information, two firefighting units first whisked off to the spot around 7:32pm. Later, more than ten units joined them. They were working to bring the fire under control.

Rozina Khanam, duty officer of the Fire Service control room, confirmed that two firefighting units reached the spot immediately after the report to begin dousing the flames. As the fire spread, three additional units were dispatched to the scene to assist in the operation.

While the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are yet to be determined, no casualties have been reported thus far.

Local authorities are monitoring the situation as emergency teams continue their efforts to bring the fire under control.

However, water shortage was hampering firefighting efforts, said Warehouse Inspector Anwarul Islam of the FSCD media cell.

The cause of the fire could not be known immediately.
