Two children drown in Srimangal

Two children tragically died after drowning in separate pond accidents in Srimangal Upazila.

The incidents occurred in the Purba Noagaon area of Sindurkhan Union on Saturday morning and in the Sona Mia Road area of the municipality in the afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Rafi, 7, son of Wahid Mia of Purba Noagaon area, and Jamina Ferdaus, aged two and a half, daughter of Idris Ali of the Sona Mia Road area.

According to local sources, at around 9:30 am on Saturday, Rafi fell into a pond while playing in the Purba Noagaon area under Ward No. 4 of Sindurkhan Union.

After a frantic search, family members found his lifeless body floating in the pond.

He was rushed to Srimangal Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

In the other incident, Jamina Ferdaus drowned in a pond while playing in the Sona Mia Road area of the municipality in the afternoon. Another child in the area witnessed the incident and informed her family members.

er informed the Fire Service and Civil Defence. Firefighters arrived at the scene and recovered her from the pond.

She was taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared her dead.

Srimangal Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Abdur Razzak said, “Two children died after drowning while playing. As the families had no complaints, the bodies were handed over to them without autopsies.”
