RAB strengthens security measures in Sylhet ahead of Eid

In view of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha, RAB-9 has taken special security measures in the four districts of Sylhet Division and Brahmanbaria.
Surveillance has been increased at livestock markets, border areas, tourist centres and key locations in the city.
At the same time, check-posts and intelligence activities have been strengthened along the border to prevent the smuggling of Indian cattle and various contraband goods.
RAB-9 Commander Md. Tajminur Rahman Chowdhury provided the information at a press conference held in Sylhet on Sunday.
He said extensive preparations have been made to ensure public safety and prevent any untoward incidents around Eid-ul-Azha.
A special security plan has been adopted covering 245 approved livestock markets in the four districts of Sylhet Division and Brahmanbaria.
RAB-9 said a total of 12 mobile support teams have been deployed-four in Sylhet city and two in each district.
These teams will patrol and monitor cattle markets, major roads, shopping areas and crowded places.
In addition, drone cameras have been kept ready to ensure security at livestock markets.
Sweeping teams are also on standby to detect any sabotage or suspicious objects.
At the press conference, the RAB-9 commander also spoke about the entry of Indian cattle and smuggled goods through the border.
He said check-posts have been strengthened at key border points, and searches are being conducted on various vehicles based on intelligence information.
