Abahani finish runners-up in BFL

Bashundhara Kings retained the Bangladesh Football League (BFL) title with one round remaining. On Saturday, the final round was to see who would win the runner-up match.

Abahani Limited and Fortis FC were the only teams left in the equation for becoming runners-up. The first condition for both teams to become runners-up was a win.

Then the goal difference would be calculated.
Fortis FC failed to match the equation on such an important day.

They ended up drawing 2-2 after trailing 2-0 against PWD at the Gazipur ground. On the other hand, the traditional Abahani Limited defeated Arambagh 4-0 at the Manikganj ground to become the runners-up.

Abahani Limited Dhaka finished runners-up in the BFL defeating Arambagh Krira Sangha by 4-0 goals in the last round of the league was held at Shaheed-Miraj-Tapan Stadium in Manikganj on Saturday.

In the day’s match, Nigerian forward Emeka Ogbugh finally broke the deadlock scoring the first goal in the 43rd minute.

After the breather, Malian forward Soulemane Diabate doubled the lead scoring the second goal in the 82nd minute of the match.

The third goal came for Abahani when Nikson Chakma of Arambagh scored a suicidal goal in the 88th minute while midfielder Sheikh Morsalin completed the tally scoring the fourth goal for Abahani in the 90+6th minute of the match.

The day’s win saw the traditional sky blue Dhaknmondi outfit Abahani Limited secured 37 points from 18 matches while Arambagh relegated from the league with the day’s defeat, remained with their previous collection of 14 points playing the same number of matches.

League champions Bashundhara also took to the field. They crushed relegated Fakirerpool Youngmens 4-1.
