One held in CoU Lecturer abduction case

Police have arrested one person and seized a vehicle used in the abduction and robbery of a lecturer from the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Comilla University (CoU).

The victim, Lecturer Abdur Razzak Sohel, was abducted and robbed of more than Tk 1 lakh while travelling to Dhaka.

Confirming the matter on Saturday (May 23), Sub-Inspector Titu Kumar Nath, the investigating officer of the case from Kotbari Police Outpost under Cumilla Sadar South Model Police Station, said the accused was apprehended during a drive conducted in different areas of Dhaka on May 21.

The arrestee has been identified as Shahabul Sheikh (32), a resident of Madhya Korpada in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila. Police also seized a car bearing registration number Dhaka Metro Ga-391686, which was used in the crime.

According to case details, the incident occurred on March 4 while Sohel was on his way to Dhaka. The victim alleged that he was abducted, physically assaulted, and that an attempt was made on his life before the perpetrators took approximately Tk 1 lakh from him.

Following the incident, the lecturer filed a case with Cumilla Sadar South Police Station on March 5 against four unidentified individuals.

Speaking to reporters, Sohel said, “Police have produced the accused before the court. Three more suspects are still at large. I hope they will be arrested soon.”
