Railway police seize 200g heroin, arrest woman

In a special anti-narcotics operation conducted by the railway police, 200 grams of heroin were recovered and a woman was arrested. The operation was carried out on the Dhaka-bound Dhumketu Express on Friday night.

The raid was conducted under the direction of Pakshi Railway Police Superintendent Md. Mehedi Hasan and led by Rajshahi Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Inspector Md. Faisal Bin Ahsan, along with SI (Unarmed) Md Toyeb Ali and accompanying police personnel.

Acting on a tip-off, the team conducted the operation at approximately 1:30 am when the train reached Harian Railway Station under the jurisdiction of Rajshahi Railway Police Station. Police searched a suspicious woman seated in seat number 3 of coach “Cha.”

During the search, police recovered two polythene packets containing 100 grams each of heroin-like powder from a small black-and-white travel bag in her possession. The estimated market value of the seized narcotics is around Tk 2 million, according to police.

The arrested woman was identified as Liza Tabassum (32), daughter of the late Abul Bashar, from the Shiala Colony area of Chapainawabganj district.

She was later formally arrested, and the seized drugs were taken into custody as evidence. A case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act with Rajshahi Railway Police Station.

Police Superintendent Md. Mehedi Hasan stated that such special drives against drug trafficking through railway routes will continue in the future.
