Former KCC mayor’s wife dies
Laila Arzuman Banu, wife of former Khulna City Corporation (KCC) mayor Sheikh Tayebur Rahman, passed away on Friday evening while undergoing treatment at Khulna City Medical College Hospital. She was 81.
Family members said she had long been suffering from kidney disease and other age-related complications.
She is survived by one son, three daughters, relatives and numerous admirers.
Her first namaz-e-janaza will be held after Zohr prayers in front of her residence on Gagan Babu Road in Khulna city, while a second janaza will take place after Asr prayers at Majhiara village in Tala upazila of Satkhira, where she will be buried at the family graveyard.
Leaders of different political, social and freedom fighters’ organisations expressed deep shock at her death.
In condolence messages, Khulna District BNP convener Md Moniruzzaman Montu and acting member secretary SM Monirul Hasan Bappi prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
Former mayor and city unit convener of Muktijoddha Sangsad Mohammad Moniruzzaman Moni and district convener Md Abu Zafar also expressed grief in a joint statement.
Separate condolence messages were also issued by Khulna City BNP president Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona and general secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin.
