BGB foils BSF bid to install border posts

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has thwarted an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to install posts at the zero line in violation of international border regulations at the Kolsirmukh frontier in Lalmonirhat’s Patgram upazila. According to Rangpur Battalion (51 BGB) on Friday, a BSF team allegedly attempted to place posts in the zero line area under Kuchlibari union on Wednesday evening, disregarding international boundary rules.

The matter came to the attention of local residents and members of the Kolsirmukh Border Outpost (BOP), who immediately objected to the move.

BGB personnel then took a firm position at the site and urged the BSF to comply with international border laws.

The BGB said it also pressed the Indian force to remove the installed posts without delay. Facing strong objections from the Bangladeshi border force, the BSF members eventually withdrew from the area and removed the posts, the statement added.

Commanding Officer of Rangpur Battalion (51 BGB), Lieutenant Colonel Naziyur Rahman, said the BSF had attempted to install posts in the border area in breach of international regulations.

“After being informed of the matter, BGB immediately adopted a strong stance and, following firm protests, the BSF was compelled to halt its activities,” he said.

He added that BGB members, along with local residents, remain on maximum alert in the border area.
The BGB official further said the force would continue to play a firm and professional role in protecting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
