Kings become Federation Cup champions
The Federation Cup final at Bashundhara Kings Arena was also a sight to behold.
Bashundhara Kings fell behind twice in such a thrilling final. However, the defending champions never lost their morale in the match. The proof of which was the result at the end of the match. Bashundhara kept the title at home with a 3-2 goals victory in a great comeback.
They won the hat-trick title in this season.
Dorielton Gomez is the hero of Bashundhara’s hat-trick title win. Like the team’s hat-trick title, the Brazilian forward scored a hat-trick in the final on Wednesday.
Bashundhara fell behind in the fifth minute of the match. Muzaffarov made Mohammedan happy with a great free-kick from outside the D-box. Bashundhara goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan had nothing to do but watch the Uzbekistan midfielder’s shot from the right edge went into the net.
Bashundhara, however, got a chance to turn things around in the ninth minute. Mohammedan goalkeeper Sujon roughly charged Samuel into the box while trying to catch the ball, and the referee blew the penalty whistle.
Mohammedan protested the referee’s decision for some time, but finally accepted it. Darieltan made no mistake when he got the chance to equalise the team. He started his hat-trick with a successful spot kick.
After regaining parity, Bashundhara had a chance to take the lead in the 12th minute. However, Rakib Hossain put the ball in the net, but before that, the referee blew the off-side whistle. Bad luck for Mohammedan too.
Even after getting a penalty in the 22nd minute, Muzaffarov, who took the spot kick, failed to score. Goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan blocked Mohammedan’s captain’s shot to the right.
Mohammedan celebrated taking the lead for the second time 10 minutes before the break. Sourav Dewan scored the goal from inside the box in the 35th minute. Bashundhara created a chance to equalise, but later failed to do so. However, they regained parity soon after the break.
This time again, Dorieltan was the hero to level again. In the 50th minute, Rakib Hossain dribbled past the defense and found the goalkeeper alone with a pass and coolly put the ball into the net.
And in the 79th minute, he ended Mohammedan’s dream of becoming champions. He caught Rimon’s pass almost in the middle of the field, ran past the opponent’s last defender, and tapped the ball into the net with a gentle tap just before it fell into the box.
Before the Federation Cup, Bashundhara won the Bangladesh Premier League trophy and the Challenge Cup title .
