Health Minister expresses disappointment over Khulna Hospital food quality

Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain has expressed anger over the poor quality of food served to patients at the 250-bed Khulna General Hospital, as well as vaccine shortages and various irregularities and mismanagement at the hospital.

He discovered these irregularities during a surprise visit to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon (May 20).During the inspection, the Health Minister expressed dissatisfaction with the taste of the pumpkin curry prepared for patients in the hospital kitchen.

He said, “Would you eat such a dish if it were cooked at your home?” He later instructed the hospital superintendent to ensure quality and nutritious food for patients. Nazrul Islam Manju and Deputy Commissioner Miz Hurre Jannat were present during the visit. While inspecting the hospital’s EPI vaccine corner, patients lodged various complaints with the Health Minister.

They alleged that due to a shortage of vaccines at the hospital, they were being forced to purchase vaccines from outside at their own expense.

After hearing the complaints on the spot, the Health Minister reprimanded the hospital superintendent, Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Gazi, and ordered that the problem be resolved quickly.

After the inspection, the Health Minister also visited the fire-damaged Khulna Medical College Hospital.
