Minister calls for stronger BD-NZ coop

Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir on Monday said Bangladesh remains committed to sustainable development, environmental protection and building a green economy despite being one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change.

He made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with New Zealand High Commissioner to Bangladesh David Pine at the Prime Minister’s Office in Dhaka. Humaiun said Bangladesh is ready to play an effective leadership role in global efforts to combat climate change and address its adverse impacts.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in trade, higher education, tourism, pharmaceuticals, food processing and climate action.
The foreign affairs adviser said Bangladesh attaches importance to deepening cooperation with New Zealand in areas of mutual interest, particularly in sustainable development and green economic transformation.

New Zealand High Commissioner David Pine praised Bangladesh’s proactive role in addressing the impacts of global climate change and encouraged Dhaka to continue playing a stronger role on the international stage.

He also expressed New Zealand’s interest in working more closely with Bangladesh in emerging economic sectors, including pharmaceuticals, tourism, higher education and food processing.

The meeting was held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting growing engagement between Bangladesh and New Zealand as the two countries seek to deepen cooperation across economic, educational and environmental fronts.
