Shahid Zia’s 45th death anniversary

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Monday announced a seven-day programme from May 25 to June 1 marking the 45th death anniversary of its founder and former president Ziaur Rahman.

The programmes include discussions, doa mahfils, food distribution and tribute ceremonies across the country.

Announcing the schedule at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said party flags would be kept at half-mast and black flags hoisted at BNP offices nationwide on May 30.

He said BNP Secretary General and senior leaders would place wreaths at Ziaur Rahman’s grave and offer prayers there at 11am on the day.

Rizvi also said BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to attend the programmes.
The party will organise a discussion meeting at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh on May 31, while BNP units across the country will distribute clothes, rice and food items among underprivileged people.

Associate bodies, including Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Krishak Dal and Olama Dal, will also hold separate programmes marking the occasion.
