Qatar Labour Minister arrives in Dhaka
Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, Qatar’s Minister of Labour, arrived in Dhaka on Sunday evening on a two-day official visit aimed at deepening labour cooperation between Bangladesh and Qatar at a time when Doha’s labour market is witnessing renewed demand for foreign workers, particularly in the service, transport, construction and hospitality sectors.
Officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Qatari minister landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the evening.
He was received by Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir in the presence of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury.
The visit comes at a significant moment for Bangladesh’s overseas employment sector, as Qatar continues to remain one of the most important destinations for Bangladeshi migrant workers in the Gulf region, according to Foreign Ministry.
Following the post-World Cup economic transition, Doha has increasingly shifted its labour demand towards long-term urban services, logistics, transport management, tourism, facility maintenance and technology-linked sectors.
Officials and recruiters say Qatar’s current labour market is no longer limited to traditional construction work.
Demand has expanded for skilled drivers, technicians, hotel staff, healthcare assistants, electricians and service-sector employees as the Gulf state continues infrastructure modernisation and economic diversification under its national development plans.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Doha described the visit as “highly important” and expressed hope that it would further strengthen friendship and partnership between the two countries in the coming years.
During the visit, the Qatari labour minister is expected to hold meetings with the Prime Minister and other senior Bangladeshi leaders and officials.
A joint committee meeting is also scheduled to take place, where both sides will discuss labour migration, manpower recruitment, bilateral cooperation and welfare issues concerning the Bangladeshi community living in Qatar.
