‘Govt gives top priority to farmers’ protection’
The government has given top priority to the protection of agriculture and farmers by introducing the ‘Farmer Card’ programme and waiving farmers’ loans, Mosihur Rahman, Director of the Agricultural Information Service said.
He said the organisation is regularly disseminating agriculture-based technological information through television, radio, social media, leaflets, and folders to support farmers, he said while speaking as the chief guest at a day-long farmers’ training programme titled “What to Do for the Protection of Agriculture and Farmers,” organised by the Agricultural Information Service, Regional Office, Sylhet, in collaboration with the Department of Agricultural Extension, Companiganj.
on Saturday at the Upazila Farmers’ Training Hall in Companiganj.
He also mentioned that 17 departments and agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture are working at the field level for the protection and development of agriculture and farmers.
He advised farmers to call the Agricultural Call Center at 16123 for solutions to any agriculture-related problems.
He further said, “Agriculture does not only mean rice and crop production; it also includes fish production, livestock, and poultry farming, where women play a significant role.
These sectors ensure nutritional security and can help eliminate poverty.
The knowledge gained through training greatly enhances efficiency and productivity in both personal and professional life.”
The training programme was chaired by Agriculturist Fahmida Akhter, Regional Radio Agriculture Officer of the Agricultural Information Service, Regional Office, Sylhet. Companiganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Rajibul Hasan attended the programme as a special guest.
The training focused on the importance of using organic fertilizers and bio-pesticides to protect soil and crops in the Sylhet region, integrated digital identity farmer cards for farmers’ overall protection, precautions in the use of chemical pesticides, and the introduction and use of agricultural websites and mobile applications.
Technical participant Umme Chalma provided overall support for the training, while the documentary presentation was conducted by Agricultural Information Service, Sylhet AICO Md. Zulfikar Ali.
A total of 30 young agricultural entrepreneurs and progressive farmers from different blocks of Companiganj Upazila participated in the training programme.
