HCG, MedLab BD hold cancer awareness event
India’s HCG Cancer Hospital, in collaboration with MedLab BD, organised a cancer awareness programme in Dhaka, bringing together doctors, healthcare professionals, business leaders, bankers, cancer survivors and patients’ family members.
The event was held at the rooftop venue of Hotel Rahmania in Motijheel on Sunday and was attended by around 40 to 45 invited guests from various professional backgrounds.
Medical experts from HCG Cancer Hospital, including GI Surgical Oncologist Dr Prabhu Nesargikar and Senior Consultant in Radiation Oncology Dr A S Kirthi Koushik, led the technical sessions.
International Sales and Marketing representative Achintya Bhusan Sharma was also present and was recognised for his role in strengthening cross-border patient support and awareness initiatives involving Bangladeshi patients.
Speakers at the programme emphasised that early detection of cancer significantly increases the chances of successful treatment and survival.
They stressed that many cases can be effectively managed if diagnosed at an early stage.
The experts also highlighted modern treatment approaches such as gene testing and CyberKnife technology, noting that precision-based therapies are helping to improve outcomes while minimising damage to healthy tissues.
They further underscored the importance of proper oncology consultation before surgical intervention in suspected cancer cases, urging patients to seek expert medical opinions to avoid delays and misinformation.
The session also discussed support services for Bangladeshi patients, including treatment coordination, second-opinion consultations and assistance with medical visas.
Two cancer survivors shared personal experiences, stressing the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment under qualified oncology specialists.
Organisers said they plan to continue similar awareness and collaboration programmes in the future to strengthen cancer education and patient support networks in Bangladesh.
