Mizanur Rahman Sinha dies

Former state minister for health and family welfare and Managing Director of Acme Laboratories Ltd Mizanur Rahman Sinha died in Singapore early Saturday while undergoing treatment. He was 83. Munshiganj-2 lawmaker Abdus Salam Azad said Sinha died around 2:00am at a hospital in Singapore after prolonged illness.

The namaz-e-janaza of, former state minister for health and convener of Munshiganj BNP, will be held today at 12:15 pm at the south plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the capital.

Sinha’s daughter and Deputy Managing Director of Acme, Tasnim Sinha, also confirmed the death through a Facebook post.

Mizanur Rahman Sinha was elected MP from Munshiganj-2 constituency in 1996 and 2001 as a candidate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Following the 2001 election, he served as state minister for health and family welfare in the cabinet led by former prime minister Khaleda Zia.

Born in Munshiganj in 1943, Sinha completed his studies at University of Dhaka and later joined the family-founded Acme Group, becoming its managing director in 1983.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and party leaders expressed deep sorrow at his death and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.
