World Hypertension Day today
World Hypertension Day is being observed in Bangladesh today, alongside other countries across the globe, through various programmes.
The theme of this year’s observance is “Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer”.
The Hypertension Committee of the National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh has been observing the day since 2006 as a member of the World Hypertension League.
According to the World Health Organization’s 2025 report, around 283,800 people died from cardiovascular diseases in Bangladesh in 2024, with 52 per cent of the deaths linked to high blood pressure. The report also said more than 10 million people die globally every year due to hypertension.
According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics’ Health and Morbidity Status Survey-2025, high blood pressure ranks first among the top 10 diseases in the country.
Marking the occasion, the National Heart Foundation Hospital and Research Institute is organising a seminar at its Mirpur-2 hall room today.
Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni is attending the programme as the chief guest, while Professor Khondaker Abdul Awal Rizvi is presiding over the event.
