Lightning strikes kill 3 in Jamalpur, Netrakona

Three people were killed and one was injured in separate lightning strikes in Jamalpur and Netrokona districts on Friday.

In Jamalpur, two people died in separate incidents in Sadar and Madarganj upazilas in the afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Faruk Ahmed, 37, son of Afsar Ali of Paschim Aranghati village under Meshta union in Sadar upazila, and Majnu Mia, 25, son of Bachchu Mia of Jorkhali village in Madarganj.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Faruk, a farmer, died on the spot after being struck by lightning while working in the yard of his house during rain. His father Afsar Ali was injured and later taken to Jamalpur General Hospital for treatment.

In another incident, Majnu Mia died after being struck by lightning while working in the yard of his house at Jorkhali village in Madarganj upazila, said Snehashis Roy, officer-in-charge of Madarganj Model Police Station.

Majnu was a member of the Madarganj upazila committee of Chhatra Shakti, the student wing affiliated with the National Citizen Party, said Md Mostak Ahmed, joint convener of Chhatra Shakti’s Jamalpur district unit.

Meanwhile, in Netrokona, a 25-year-old man was killed by lightning in Kendua upazila.

The deceased was Enamul Haque, son of Bakul Mia of Maska village under Maska union.

According to police and family sources, Enamul went to Maska Haor to catch fish around 3:00pm. As rain started suddenly, he was struck by lightning and critically injured.

Relatives took him to Kendua Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Md Mehedi Maksud, officer-in-charge of Kendua Police Station, confirmed the death.
