Over 138,000 prisoners get legal aid services
A total of 138,856 prisoners have received legal assistance through the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO). According to a report published on the NLASO website, from 2009 to April 2026, some 30,567 people received legal assistance through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office at government expense.
During the period, a total of 1,196,756 people received assistance through 64 district legal aid offices across the country, while 30,102 workers were provided services through Labour Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram. Besides, 204,205 people received services through the government legal aid national helpline call centre’s toll-free number 16699.
In total, 1,461,630 beneficiaries received legal assistance through government-funded legal aid services. The activities are being carried out under the Legal Aid Services Act enacted to provide free legal assistance to financially insolvent and helpless litigants.
