BD players climb ICC rankings following Dhaka Test win

Bangladesh set a precedent of winning a Test match against Pakistan for the first time at home in their history. In the first Test against Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Tuesday last, Najmul Hossain Shanto was a complete ‘captain leading from the front’.

He gave his best in all aspects of batting, fielding, and captaincy. He also received an award from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Bangladesh cricketers got good news after men’s weekly updated rankings were updated on Wednesday. Shanto has moved up 16 places to number 23 in the Test batter’s rankings.

The Bangladesh captain has received a career-best 649 rating points. He received the Man of the Match award after playing two innings of 101 and 87 runs.

Babar Azam is jointly at number 23 with the same 649 rating points. This star Pakistani batter could not play the first Test due to a knee injury.

Like Shanto, Mominul Haque also scored fifties in two innings (91 and 56 runs). Shanto and Mominul have made a century partnership for the third wicket in both innings. Mominul is 35th in the Test batter’s rankings, up 12 places.

Australia’s Cameron Green is 35th with 592 rating points. Mushfiqur Rahim has moved up two places to 26th in the Test batter’s rankings. He played an innings of 71 runs in the first innings of Dhaka Test.

Taijul Islam and Nahid Rana have moved up five places in the bowlers’rankings. Rana is 64th in the Test bowlers’ rankings, up five places. Rana, who took 1 wicket in the first innings against Pakistan, took 5 wickets in the second innings. Taijul has moved up three places to 13th. He took 4 wickets in the Dhaka Test. Taijul and Rana have rating points of 704 and 332 respectively.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz is still 27th in the Test bowlers’ rankings with 620 rating points. He took 6 wickets in the Dhaka Test. Of which, he took 5 wickets in the first innings. Jasprit Bumrah retained the top spot in the Test bowlers’ rankings with 879 rating points. Mitchell Starc, Matt Henry and Pat Cummins, who are at 2nd , 3rd and 4th respectively, have rating points of 838, 836 and 832 respectively.

Joe Root retained the top spot in the Test batters’ rankings with 880 rating points. There was no change in the position up to the first eight. Harry Brook and Travis Head, who are at 2nd and 3rd respectively, have rating points of 857 and 853 respectively.

Before the start of the first Test in Dhaka, Pakistan were better position than Bangladesh in 2025-27 ICC Test Championship cycle. Bangladesh was behind. After a 104-run win in Dhaka on Wednesday last, Bangladesh moved up two steps to sixth in the points table. Shanta’s team’s success rate is 44.44 percent.

On the other hand, Pakistan has dropped two steps to seventh. Their success rate is 33.33 percent. The second Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan will start at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on May 16.
