Tigers earn historic victory against Pakistan
A five-wicket haul by Nahid Rana powered Bangladesh Cricket team to earn a historic 104-run victory over Pakistan Cricket team on Day 5 of the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Tuesday.
After 24 years, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan in a Test match at home. Earlier, Bangladesh whitewashed Pakistan 2-0 in the two-Test series in Rawalpindi of Pakistan in 2024.
Nahid Rana shone with the cherry and completed his outstanding spell as 9.5-2-40-5.
Sent into bat first, the Tigers piled up a massive total of 413 on the second day (Saturday). Najmul Hossain Shanto hit a captain’s knock of 101 in the first innings and scored a half-century in the second innings. Shanto was adjudged the Player of the Match.
Pakistan fought back making 386 in the first innings on the third day (Sunday).
Bangladesh declared their second innings scoring 240 runs for the loss of nine wickets on the fifth and final day and set a target of 268 runs to win for Pakistan in the second innings.
Pakistan were all out for 163 in the second innings on the last day (Tuesday).
Bangladesh resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 152 for the loss of three wickets.
Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 58 and 16 runs respectively.
Mushfiqur Rahim could able to add more six runs on the fifth day as he (22) was caught at the mid-off by Shan Masood off Hasan Ali when the home side’s total was 164 for the loss of four wickets.
After Mushfiqur Rahim’s dismissal, Shanto and Litton Das contributed 26 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Litton Das (11) was caught at the fine leg by Hasan Ali off Shaheen Shah Afridi when Bangladesh’s score was 190 for the loss of five wickets.
After Litton’s departure, Shanto was trapped leg before wicket by Noman Ali when the hosts’ total was 216 for the loss of six wickets.
Shanto notched up a patient 87. His 150-ball innings was laced with seven fours.
After Shanto’s dismissal, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (24) was caught at the slip by Salman Agha off Noman Ali when Bangladesh’s score was 225 for the loss of seven wickets.
After Miraz’s departure, Taijul Islam (3) was bowled out by Noman Ali when the home side’s total was 232 for the loss of eight wickets.
After Taijul’s dismissal, Taskin Ahmed (11) was caught at the square leg by Imam-ul-Haque off Hasan Ali when Bangladesh’s score was 240 for the loss of nine wickets.
Hasan Ali and Noman Ali captured three wickets instead of 52 and 76 runs respectively.
Then, Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto decalered their innings and gave a challenge to the touring side to win making 268.
Right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed gave his team early breakthrough as opener Imam-ul-Haque (2) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off right-arm pacer when Pakistan’s score was just three.
Opener Azan Awais and one-down Abdullah Fazal built a remarkable partnership adding together 54 runs for the second wicket partnership before Azan (15) was bowled out by right-arm spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz when the visitors’ total was 57 for the loss of two wickets.
Promising right-arm speedster Nahid Rana struck as Shan Masood (2) was caught behind by Litton Das off promising pacer when Pakistan’s score was 68 for the loss of three wickets.
Abdullah Fazal and Salman Agha added together 51 runs in the four-wicket stand before Fazal was trapped leg before wicket by Taijul Islam when the tourists’ total was 119 for the loss of four wickets.
After Fazal’s departure, Pakistan lost their wickets in regular intervals.
Taskin Ahmed hit as Salman Agha (26) was caught at the gully by Shadman Islam off right-arm pacer when the touring side’s score was 121 for the loss of five wickets.
Then, Nahid Rana came to bowl and he dismissed Saud Shakeel for 15, Mohammad Rizwan for 15. Hasan Ali (1) was trapped leg before wicket by Taijul Islam.
Nahid Rana dismissed Noman Ali for four runs and then picked up Shaheen Shah Afridi for naught and fulfilled his five-wicket haul and also folded Pakistan’s innings.
Taijul Islam and Taskin Ahmed bagged a pair of wickets each giving 22 and 40 runs respectively.
Besides, Miraz took one wicket for 47 runs.
