Shops to remain open till 10pm ahead of Eid

Markets, shopping malls and commercial establishments across the country will remain open until 10pm from Tuesday until Eid-ul-Azha to facilitate Eid shopping.

In a press release, the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association said the decision was taken with government approval following requests from traders.

Earlier, businesses were instructed to close by 7pm as part of energy-saving measures introduced amid the ongoing power crisis.

According to the association, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources approved the extended business hours from May 12 until Eid-ul-Azha considering increased shopping activities during the festive season.

However, traders have been asked to avoid decorative lighting and unnecessary electricity use to reduce pressure on the power supply.

Association President Helal Uddin said the organisation had sought permission to keep shops open until 11pm, though the government approved operations up to 10pm.
