Mohammedan’s obstacle Brothers to reach the final
Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited could not win the Challenge Cup title in the first tournament of this season. Despite defending champions in the Bangladesh Football League, they have already been eliminated from the title race of Bangladesh Football League. Mohammedan have only one chance – the Federation Cup title.
At the beginning of the season, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) announced that there would be five tournaments this season. It did not happen. In the end, the Swadhinata Cup and Super Cup were dropped from the schedule.
Therefore, the 2025-26 football season is going to end this month with three tournaments. The fight for the crown of Bangladesh Football League has been limited to Bashundhara Kings and Dhaka Abahani Limited. Even if Mohammedan win the remaining matches, it will not be profitable. So, Mohammedan’s chance for black and white fans is to win the Federation Cup.
There are two more matches left in the Federation Cup Football. Bashundhara Kings have reached the final by winning the First Qualifiers.
Brothers Union Club, which lost to Bashndhara Kings in the First Qualifiers, and Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited, which won against Rahmatganj MFS in the Eliminator Phase , will face each other in the Second Qualifiers today. The winning team of the two teams will face Bashundhara Kings in the final on May 19.
The Second Qualifier match will be held at Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla. The venue for the Federation Cup final has been set at Bashundhara Kings Arena in the capital. Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited are the second most successful team in the Federation Cup.
They have won the title of the tournament for 11 times. Dhaka Abahani Limited have been the champions the most times, 12 times. Dhaka Abahani Limited, the runners-up in the last Federation Cup, have been eliminated from the group stage this time. If Mohammedan can become the champions this time, they will be able to reach the same level as Abahani. Before that, they will have to win against Brothers.
The Management Committee of Mohammedan has given the responsibility of coaching to Abdul Kaiyum Sentu after sacking coach Alfaz Ahmed, who led Mohammedan to become the champions of the Bangladesh Football League for the first time. Under his leadership, Mohammedan have won three out of four matches in the League.
If Brothers can defeat Mohammedan, they will reach the Federation Cup final after a long 21 years. They last won the Federation Cup in 2005. After that, the all-orange out-fit could not reach the final again.
